My daughter and I started volunteering at our local animal sanctuary, Pets Alive in Middletown, NY, a little over a year ago. Pets Alive is a No-Kill animal sanctuary that is home to about 100 dogs, 200 cats, and a few farm animals. It was one of the best decisions of our lives! Getting to know the special animals there has been more than rewarding. We consider some of those animals family even though we do not live under the same roof. The best part about it, is knowing that we're making a difference in their lives, and helping them overcome their own, unique obstacles to help them become more adoptable and ultimately find their forever home. Every weekend when we go to volunteer at the sanctuary, we get this undescribable feeling of happiness when we see the excitement on a dog's face as we approach their kennel. It is the highlight of our week, and we enjoy every minute of it! Check out their website

We are also members of The Seeing Eye's Puppy Raising Program . We are currently raising a Yellow Labrador Retriever named Norm. As puppy raisers, we have to socialize and expose Norm to as many sounds, smells, and situations as possible, in order for him to be prepared for his future life as a Seeing Eye Dog.  It is an extremely rewarding experience, especially when one of your dogs gets matched with a blind individual.
